Bronwyn Young

MA in Education (Dance Teaching), RAD-RTS, ARAD | RAD Ballet, Pointe + Conditioning

Originally from Ottawa, Bronwyn moved to Squamish in the summer of 2023 and is excited to be learning and teaching on the North Shore!

At age 10, Bronwyn was a provincial level artistic gymnast in Ontario when ballet was recommended to try and get her to release some of the stiffness and tension she was holding. She quickly fell in love with the intricacies of ballet.

Her drive and passion allowed her to train with both the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and Canada's National Ballet School professional divisions, in addition to completing her RAD vocational examinations, attaining Distinction on her Advanced 2.

After an injury changed her path, she explored other movement forms and became a registered Yoga teacher and barre fitness instructor. Still, ballet had her heart and this passion led her back to dance to become a ballet teacher.

Bronwyn is a registered teaching member of the Royal Academy of Dance, an Associate of the RAD and a tutor and mentor for the RAD's teacher training programme. She completed her Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies in 2018 and was awarded the Dorothy Cox-Scruton Bursary in recognition of her potential as a teacher and her involvement in the arts community in Ottawa.

Bronwyn completed her MA in Education (Dance Teaching) with distinction in 2021, and was awarded the Professor Joan White Prize for her research into the dancer's experience and the personal movement language each dancer develops when learning adage.

Bronwyn also holds her Benesh Movement Notation for Ballet certificate. She believes both dancers and teachers should always be learning and this move to BC will allow her to apply for her PhD in Arts Education, where she hopes to study how the intuitive sense of line, weight placement, and coordination develop in youth ballet dancers.

In addition to teaching, Bronwyn is a trained aerialist, wife, mother of two, and lover of books. She enjoys spending time outside with her family and can often be found hiking, biking, or snowboarding.

Miss Bronwyn is excited for Season 11 at DDA!
